A lot of my gambling blog colleagues have covered the different betting systems out there and so far I have stayed out of it, but I decided I might as well post one all-encompassing blog explaining how betting systems affect your money in slots.

It’s really quite simple. You want to know what the betting systems do? They cost you money. There is dispute over whether they can work in any game, with many mathematicians that I know saying the answer is “no,” but one thing is certain: None of them work for slots.

The reason for that is slots are completely random, as controlled by the random number generator, and each spin is completely independent of the rest. In a card game like blackjack and poker, your odds can change as you get deeper into the deck based on which cards have been dealt and which have not. That is not the case for online slots, where no spin has any affect on any other spin. Your odds are exactly the same every time you press the spin button.

There is the Martingale system, where you start with a base bet and double it every time you lose. The thinking is that once you win again you will cover your losses. However, the most likely outcome is that you will enter a losing streak and then, by doubling your money, run out of funds before you win again.

There is the Paroli betting system, which is the opposite of the Martingale, where you start with a base wager and increase it every time you win. There is also the D’Alembert system, where you increase your bet whenever you lose and decrease it whenever you win.
