Miami-Dade County Slots Vote

With Broward County having approved slots, and the Seminole Indians a signature away from a slots compact with the Governor, Miami Dade county is thinking that they may have acted rashly when deciding whether or not they want to have slots in their county. Voters had chosen not to approve the slots at the same time that Broward decided to approve them, and now they are seemingly regretting that decision.

In January, voters will get a chance to overturn that decision, and to get into the same race as everyone else. With Broward County looking to add even more slots later this year at Boyd Gaming’s Dania Jai-Alai, they know that to compete they will need to approve them post haste. The government also considered legalizing statewide video lottery gambling, although no decision has been made.

However, some say that they should look at the numbers that the slots in Broward County are bringing in – it isn’t nearly the same amount that experts had predicted they would bring in. The state had said they would bring in more than $200 per slot machine daily, and some experts put it as high as $400 per machine.

However, the fact of the matter is that they only hit $400 per machine one month and that was the first partial month that they were open. Gulfstream Park is hitting around $70 per machine, Mardi Gras Gaming is under $200 per machine as is Isle Casino and Racing. Experts say that the market in the area may be oversaturated with slots, and by adding more slots those numbers are just going to continue to drop.
