UIGEA Disliked on Both Sides

One of the major flaws in the UIGEA is that it simply fails to recognize the presence of the practice it is attempting to outlaw. Based in utopian ideals and utterly disconnected from what is truly the situation, the misguided legislation has not succeeded in its goals to date, and furthermore, seeks to muddle the standards of the law.

Furthermore, it serves to defeat its very purpose since the whole point of keeping online gambling out is to avoid the dangers and potential threats of online slots casino gambling. However, by just outlawing the behavior and not tackling it as a real present issue, it lacks any kind of resources for people who need help, and who find themselves in this situation regardless of the law.

The National Council on Problem Gaming is of course supportive of legislation that will monitor and minimize the frequency of online slots casino gambling. However, even they have a bone to pick with the actual law that is currently in place, since it was poorly written and barely thought out in the first place. Furthermore, even they have said the the UIGEA has completely overlooked any kind of research or long term plan of attack to figure out how to handle gambling addiction as a societal problem in the first place.

While ideally, the main goal of the law, which is to cut off the money supply to the online casinos, would be successful, it has clearly failed in practice, and only serves to worsen the problem by only addressing the symptoms, and ignoring the actual “disease” that is causing them in the first place.
