A US Gambling Tax?
In a world where the US is the butt of many jokes and the receiver of much criticism, it looks like there has been a recent significant increase in the popularity of the idea of taxation and regulation for the online slots and casino industry. While it has been totally shut out to date, due to the UIGEA, the current economic climate, coupled with the recent increase in illegal online activity, the possibility of legalization has become more real than ever.
Certainly it will become one of the largest issues in Congress and in government in the next couple of years, as more and more of the general public logs on to the internet and all of the commercial possibilities. Furthermore, how the government handles this situation will ultimately set a precedent for future dealings when it comes to regulating international commerce and online casino industries.
Especially now, when it seems that there is no hope on the horizon, several wars going on, and major companies biting the dust, the government and the population alike are hungry for another solution. The extra cushion that the tax revenues would garner from the online casino industry is looking increasingly attractive to all parties, and it is undeniable that the industry is just about ready to explode.
Furthermore, it might be a positive move to legalize and tax online gambling, especially in the spirit of solidarity with other countries and in an effort to promote international commerce and trade. Taxation is just a fact of life, and in this case, will be the icing on the cake for people who will play online slots without going to jail.
