TV Host Falls From Grace

Scandal has hit the Korean airwaves, where a highly popular televtion game host has been caught playing illegal online gambling. Korea has outlawed any online slots and casino activity, and for this high profile figure to have been caught, especially in a losing position, having been down over 400 million Won in his time online, is a huge deal.

The tv host is Kang Byung-kyu, who actually started his career in the limelight as a highly successful Korean baseball player, who as of late has been hosting the show “Vitamine” which has been so popular in Korean primetime television. Unfortunately, playing online slots and baccarat is actually illegal, so the scandal is a very huge deal and it might mean that Kang’s television career might be over.

The way that he was able to access the site is that it was established by four Koreans who went to the Philippines and started their own online casino which accepted IP addresses based in Korea. The four were arrested recently and all their equipment and servers were confiscated, so all Korean players who logged on to the site where then found out. Furthermore, that information was crucial in finding out that Kang took part in the illegal behavior.

At this point he has been fired from his tv hosting position, although the network has not acknowledged the indiscretion, and has instead cited the fact that his appearance fees were way too high to continue with him hosting the show. Once he makes his appearance in court, maybe based on how the trial turns out, it will have a huge effect on the future of his Korean television career.
