Bermuda Wants to Be Good
In the wake of the state of Kentucky taking on the online casino software provider Microgaming, now Bermuda-based online casinos are thinking twice about offering their services to IP addresses that are based in the US. If a mere American state has the power to threaten such a giant online casino software provider with the entire dissolution of the company, then why anger the entire country by continuing to provide its residents with online slots?
Bermuda says that its activity in the online casino and slots sector and any activity related to any money laundering would be hugely detrimental to the prospects of attracting any future business, especially where the United States is concerned. The US has made it expressly clear that they do not plan on letting citizens take part in online slots gambling, and furthermore has publicly shown that they will not tolerate online casinos that try to evade the rules.
Even if Bermuda does not offer online casino activities to US citizens, any other negative behavior in the commercial sector will raise red flags for the US, and make it seem like an unsafe place to conduct business. Furthermore, the US wants to provide a safe place for its residents to conduct business without the fear of any dangerous activity.
The government of Bermuda is specifically trying to distance the country from any type of Antigua similarities, since Antigua has become a place that is quite unattractive to the US as a commercial center. Furthermore, Bermuda is hugely reliant on international commerce as a means to survive economically, and so it is even more important to preserve the ethical and financial integrity of the country as a whole. If that means that the country must shy away from hosting online casinos, then the country is willing to do so.
