Nova Scotia Ahead of the US
While the US is still entrenched in the years old debate over the merits of legalizing online slots casinos, it looks like Nova Scotia has joined the ranks of countries who have progressed faster than the supposed international super power that is the United States. The US is still working on adjusting the current law which is in place, which is the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which was passed in 2006. It has been under fire since the beginning since its parameters are vague and generally unenforceable and ineffective. Just this month, Representative Barney Frank, who has championed the cause for years, has finally unveiled his long awaited legislation draft that just might remedy all of the current problems,.
Either way, Nova Scotia has figured out how to get their own online slots going in their area before the US. While internet gambling is actually against the law in Canada, it looks like people are well aware that the law is just for show, as there are several online casinos who call Canada their home and they have great success there. The main reason for that discrepancy is that the companies that operate there are for the most part licensed through a special agreement with the native Mohawk tribe, who hosts international licenses through their Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
Unfortunately Canadians have a similar situation to the United States in that they are having trouble deciphering what the law actually states, and also how to enforce it once they figure that out. Nova Scotia will actually be getting their way and legalizing online casino gambling in the near future. Since state programs like lottery are so widely accepted and there is already a built in market for internet casinos, it would only make sense for countries like Canada and the US to tap into that revenue and add some cushion to the already stretched national budget.
