Vietnam Issues

In a very interesting turn of events, it looks like the US may have more in common with a few Third World Countries than most people might think. While to many we are still a world leader and at the cutting edge of technology, philosophy and civilization, in fact our rules and methods of dealing with many issues are closer to that of various countries that are so ultra conservative, it would make more sense that they are in line with those rules than us. Unfortunately a few things have stuck after 8 years of conservative rule, such as a 1950s attitude of naďve idealism and denial. These attitudes have permeated so deeply that even our online casino law is more in line with “backwards” legislation from much less developed countries.

While some countries are light years ahead of us in terms of our international policy and foreign relations, we are still stuck in the dark ages as we try to figure out what to do with this new technology called the internet.

Vietnam for example is completely against the idea of online casino gambling, but what is interesting is that the saturation of people who still have access to this is astounding. Regardless of severe consequences and fines, thousands still break the rules and would rather test the waters for the chance of winning big.

Something to consider would have to be why all these people are so willing to risk so much, even while the consequences could possibly be so dangerous. Is it because people have developed an addiction or dependency on online slots casinos? Could it also be that these people don’t have the resources to seek help anywhere because they are breaking the law? This is Vietnam, and yet Americans are actually in the same exact boat.

The way people do it is take their laptops to internet cafes near the border where their wireless access allows them to access networks from neighboring Cambodia.

If only that were the case here in the US.
