Finland Bringing in Online Slots?

After all of this time with the government of Finland trying to keep online gambling illegal, it looks as though they are going to try and throw their hat in the online slots ring. The country’s own Raha- Automaattiyhdistys or RAY is considering adding online slots to one of the things that the country regulates.

They simply stated that during their second quarter, their Board of Administration would take a look into the online slots issue to see if it was worth exploring further. If anyone in Finland is going to operate online slots or an online casino, it would be RAY as they have the exclusive rights to make such an offering.

They currently meet all legal principles as determined and confirmed by the ECJ or European Court of Justice, and have done so since it was ruled on in 1999. But there have been other countries that have not complied when it came to online slots and gambling and they want to make sure that they follow the letter of the law.

According to Jukka Vihriala, Chairman for their Board of Administration, they are “considering under what judicial, political, financial and ethical conditions Internet distribution would be possible.” They want to ensure that they are taking a risk worth taking, and that they have the support of the people behind it.

They announced their intent to consider online slots and gambling at a recent meeting, and at this time they had more than 60 member organizations represented. They say that they do not know which way they are leaning, but they are considering it.
