WMS Leads the Way for New
Generation Slots
WMS Industries, headed by Brian R.
Gamache, is at the forefront of modernization in the slot machine world.
Having spearheaded the transition from mechanical slots to today’s
popular computerized video slot format, WMS continues to set the bar for
upcoming technology and innovation.
Because of the recession, people have
been more careful and conservative with their money, so it’s up to individual companies to
figure out how to keep making money. “People go into a casino hoping for a
life-changing event, and that’s going to be even more of a draw in a
recession,” says Gamache. “You can leave a casino with more money than
you went in with. Tell me, can you do that in a restaurant or movie
theatre? We have better content. It’s that simple.”
WMS gets all of its income from
casinos- 40% from leasing the games, and 60% from selling them. The
Chicago-based company strives not only to push the envelope in slot
technology, but also stresses the importance of maintaining the
excitement and uniqueness of each individual game.
Their next step is to change the way
machines are operated. Right now, it's really slow because each one needs
to be maintained on an individual basis. But if all games were networked to a central
server, like WMS Chief Operating Officer Larry Pacey advises, a casino manager
would be able to manipulate screens remotely. “It’s the future of gambling. And we’re making it
happen.”
