Illegal Slots Discovered in
California
Detectives discovered illegal slot
machines at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Santa Maria, a city on
the Central Coast of California. After a month-long investigation,
detectives found and seized four Las Vegas style slot.
The building in which they were found
is located at the 200 block of East Battles. People inside the building
declined to talk on camera, but maintained that the slots incident should
not overshadow all the good that the Veterans of Foreign Wars does for
the community.
Investigators seized the machines,
along with $5,000 and detectives cited and released business owner,
71-year-old Russel Dobels of Santa Maria.
Larry Reed, owner of a neighboring
barber shop, said, “It’s real quiet. You don’t even know that they’re
there unless you walk out to my mailbox, and you can smell the smoke from
the barbeque bits or the cars, and the parking lots full of people”.
To be eligible for membership in the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, you must have honorable service with the US
Armed Forces and have overseas service in a foreign conflict.
Dobels was given a misdemeanor
citation for illegal possession of slot machines.
