To Slot or Not to Slot

For as many people who love casinos and online slots, there are just as many people who are against them. All over the world, city councils and slot lovers are at odds over how many casinos are allowed, and where they will be permitted. Some argue that casinos bring revenue to the city and will allow for fewer tax cuts. Others argue that gambling promotes irresponsible activity and sets a negative example, especially when casinos are located very close to schools.

That is the exact situation that is going on in Vernon, British Colombia, where residents are up in arms over the possibility of having casinos in their town. There is a council was originally going to have a hearing this month over limiting the number of casinos that would be permitted in their city. However, realizing they were overlooking the location issue, they decided to postpone the hearing so they could revise their position. That decision will allow them to address both issues at once while avoiding having to have more than one hearing.

In the meantime, they want to limit the number of slot machines to 300 and instead of having the slot machines located all over the town, as the situation is now, the council wants to consolidate all of them into one centralized location. Because they have postponed their hearing, they will have to wait a little longer for the decision, but in the long run, it was a smart move, since they will be able to avoid having to have repeated hearings for several proposals. Either way, it looks like we’ll have to wait and see how the slots issue in Vernon will be resolved.
