History
and Slots
Although
online slots are relatively new, people have been playing with their
money for thousands of years, even in ancient Egypt and Rome. Gambling
has persevered as an integral and natural part of human nature, and as
such, has been appropriately accepted and persecuted throughout the
course of history. The games have changed, the currencies have changed,
but all around the world, all civilizations and cultures have their own
ways of gaming.
These days,
technology is changing at the speed of light, with innovations trickling
down into the world of casinos. The very latest technologies, such as
virtual reality and touch screen, are being used in slot machines to keep
them fresh, creating a newer, faster, bigger and better experience.
However, one day, our future society will think of our own cutting edge
land and online casino games and smile at how quaint the technology and
graphics used to be. For now however, we have the pleasure and privilege
of looking back at others’ past craftsmanship and innovations.
Geeky
history buffs and cool slot machine fanatics can finally mingle under one
roof in Virginia City. The town’s Nevada Gambling Museum has a
spectacular exhibit of vintage slot machines and casino relics. It
includes a diverse and very rare collection from ancient Native American
gambling sticks, which are a very simple form of gaming, to vintage slot
machines from the 30’s and 40’s which are much more mechanically and
visually complex and impressive. In those days, each slot machine was an
art masterpiece, with the complexity and detail of the inner-workings of
a clock, and the elaborate beauty common in the architecture and design
of the day.
As Walt
Disney’s Carousel of Progress said, “There’s a great big beautiful
tomorrow.” Since change is inevitable, looking back at the past makes
the present so much more exciting because it makes you realize that you
just don’t know what is coming next.
