Let’s dive into the issue a little further. We know that slot machines alone are responsible for a large part of gambling addiction. We also know that people get hooked because they think they have the possibility of winning big, even though even those chances are purposely skewed by the manufacturers. Why then, are people still sitting down to play slots, when it is widely known that the payouts are manipulated to be small and few and far between, and there is no skill or control involved on the players part?

Slot machines alone carry a large part of casino revenue, which means that people lose less money at the card tables, due to the set odds that they have and their own skill of the game. Slot machines however, although they are widely known to be random and completely based on luck, have a dark little secret. Casino owners actually can control just how “loose” or “tight” the machine is! Not only are they rigging the mechanism to create the illusion of better odds for the player, but it is common practice for casinos to regulate how much or how often a machine pays out!

So, the house is ALWAYS in control with slots! In order to keep more money, since land casinos have seen a huge decrease in foot traffic over the past year, they have actually resorted to making the machines tighter, as is the case in several facilities across the nation. The only problem is, that gamblers are not a stupid bunch. They will catch on, and the morale will decrease, and amount of people willing to gamble their hard earned money on slots will go down! However, casinos in Japan have thought a couple steps ahead, and they have put in a bare minimum of ‘loose’ slots to offset the tight ones, and keep up the illusion that it is still possible to win money by playing the machines. So far this madness is only going on in land casinos, so online slots are a more and more attractive alternative.
