Slots Should Have a Warning Label

At their best, slot machines are great entertainment. They have the best graphics, fun twists, and new and exciting chances to test your luck at every push of the button. Plus they can make a person rich. And they can bring money to the country that it’s in. But at their worst, slot machines can create such a horrible situation for a person. Addiction to gambling has caused bankruptcy, divorce, dependency and isolation. Slot machines can even cause death, as a bad outcome can drive a depressed, addicted person to commit suicide. Therefore, the slots debate is going on in many cities, in several countries all over the world.

The latest city to join that debate is Mont Tremblant, Canada. It is a huge resort city, which sees millions of dollars in revenue from its thousands of annual visitors. An addition of a new slot machine casino would be a huge draw, and officials in the city have just met to discuss the possibility of opening a new one by next summer. However, residents of the city have heard the news of all the bad things going on around the world because of gambling and addiction, and other cities up in arms over the same issues.

While it is safe to say that casinos bring in tons of cash, they also bring very negative events to those unlucky few who can’t handle it, and those effects ripple out to the whole town that it happens in. The residents of Mont Tremblant were especially worried as the news spread, in a very untimely manner, about the recent suicide of a man who had lost a lot of money playing slots at the nearby Montreal Casino. The news was so upsetting and obviously sensitive that it caused the initial meeting about the new casino to be rescheduled.
