Bodog Attempts to Reassure Players
In the current tumultuous financial and economic atmosphere, Americans
are wary of who to trust and have found themselves questioning the
stability of even large and longstanding corporations. Even with large
banks and mortgage companies such as Fannie Mae and WaMu finding
themselves in hot water, Americans are more worried now than ever about
the stability of their funds, and the safety of their accounts and
deposits.
Also, two years ago, the US passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act, affectionately known as the evil UIGEA, which outlines
rules(vaguely at best) for defining what exactly constitutes internet
gambling, who is supposed to regulate and enforce the law, and what the
punishment is. What that means is, nobody really knows how strongly the
law is being enforced, if at all, and many people are being prosecuted on
very shaky grounds. There is one very bold company which has been in the
spotlight lately, due to its decision to keep up US operations despite
the UIGEA.
Bodog Casinos, a highly popular and lucrative online slots and poker
casino that has put its bad boy owner Calvin Ayre on the cover of Forbes
Magazine, is making headlines once again, as the latest reports of
accounts being seized are striking a nerve with online casino players in
the States. They are worried that the accounts being seized hold their
money and that they won’t be able to recoup control.
In fact, Mr. Ayre has retired,
leaving the company in the hands of the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group in
Canada. The CEO of Mohawk, Alwyn Morris, has done his best to assure
players that their money is in no danger, and has said that the company
is set to pay them their money, just as they have always done. For now,
it looks like Bodog will continue, business as usual, for another day.
