Plympton Concerned About Middleboro Slots Casino

With the residents of Middleboro having approved the slots casino that the Wampanoag Tribe wants to bring in, residents of Plympton are concerned about what effect the slots will have on them. They say that just because Middleboro has agreed to allow the slots in their town, they shouldn’t have to deal with them as well.

Residents are up in arms for what they say is a move against the town. They say that there is not any amount of money that is worth bringing slots in and “gambling the character of the town.” Residents got together for a “fact finding” meeting, and selectmen were very clear in that they are not anti-slots or anti-casino, they just want to get the facts straight as to how it will affect them.

Plympton residents say that the tribe and the town of Middleboro have a lot in place to ensure that the slots benefit both of them, but what about their fair town. They say that they are not getting enough of the slots revenue to warrant being put out by a casino. Some tribal and Middleboro representatives were on hand, and they said that the slots would not have that much of an impact on Plympton, that really it was only Middleboro that would feel it.

Residents disagreed, saying that with the tribe bringing in 7,000 slots, 380 table games, a hotel, convention center, golf course, etc. – it would be along the lines of the slots casino that came into Connecticut years ago called the Mohegan Sun. That slots casino is now one of the largest in the world. They also said that since the lottery and state alcohol sales would drop they would be getting less revenue from there as well.
