Second Life Trouble
It seems that banning online slots and gambling in Second Life is giving
them an even harder time than they thought. There are complaints coming
from those who are “residents” of the virtual world who say that not only
is the online slots and gambling ban wrong, but they should have been
given some sort of notice that they were considering doing so.
Many have put money and time into creating online slots and gambling
ventures, and they are now out of that money. One resident said he
literally purchased a poker table for about 25,000 Linden dollars and the
next day it was illegal. He feels that he should be compensated for the
loss.
But the online slots and gambling ban is not the only problems that the
site is having, their online bank, Ginko Financial, has run out of money
and someone stole $12,000 from the Second Life World Stock Exchange. The
company, and experts, are saying that it is best if those that are
currently doing business in Second Life take appropriate precautions as
it is full of “security risks and fraud” and those that are involved
could lose their reputation depending on how they are affected by the
virtual world.
Others say that the site is merely a place to have fun. That you
shouldn’t take it too seriously – after all it is just a virtual world.
But slots and gambling were definitely part of that world as the daily
transactions have dropped from $1.8 to $1.2 on average since the slots
and gambling ban was enacted.
Still others say that if the government has decided that online slots and
gambling are illegal, then why are people participating in it at Second
Life. If it is illegal in real life, then it should still be illegal in
the virtual world that has been created by people such as themselves.
