Hoosier Park Wants More Space for Slots
Hoosier Park is requesting more space for their slots, with an expansion that many feel is quite necessary due to recent legislation. The Indiana General Assembly has approved up to 2,000 slots at each of the two racing tracks that are currently located in Indiana.
The addition would add 90,000 square feet for the slots to what they already have. They are waiting for the approval from the Anderson Board of Zoning Appeals before they go to the Indian Gaming Commission and Indiana Horse Racing Commission. They are expecting to have final approval by the fall, and then can proceed from there.
The move will more than double the interior space that they have now, and will put the slots area to the north of the clubhouse as it sits now. In addition to the slots space there will also be more parking and places for food and drinks to be obtained.
As the park leases their property from the city of Anderson, they must obtain the approval before adding the slots structure, but again, they don’t think that it will be a problem. The track has to pay an initial slots licensing fee of $250 million, with the first $150 million due by November 1st.
