Franchot Calls Slots Report Propaganda

Peter Franchot is Maryland’s Comptroller, and he has been very vocal in his distaste of the slots. He says that to bring slots into their state would be nothing but a mistake, and he says that the new report that was compiled by Thomas E. Perez, Governor O’Malley’s secretary of the Department of Labor, was simply slots propaganda.

Franchot says that the report did nothing but try and get people to think that slots would save their budget crisis. He says that the report did not come up with new ideas of what might help them solve their issues, only managed to ignite new fires under old issues. Franchot says that the state has been fighting over slots for years, and this report just made it worse.

The governor has already said that he supports legalizing a limited number of slots, and when commenting on the report, he said that he thought that Perez had done a good job on it and that it was fair and balanced. He said that to suggest that Perez is working for the slots industry was simply ridiculous.

Franchot said that he respected Perez, and that they had worked on other things together, but felt that this report was biased at best. This is not the first time that the governor and Franchot have gone at it over slots and other things that they disagreed on, and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this matter is anywhere close to being put to rest.
