Revenues Up in Detroit

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, casinos in the Detroit area saw an increase in their slots and gambling revenues over the same time last year. It could be because each of the casinos is now starting to finish up the more permanent parts of their slots casinos, or it could just be that more people are playing the slots than last year.

Detroit has now become one of the most populous American cities that have slots within their borders by adding three new casinos into the city, which has had good and bad moments to it. The casinos bring in all kinds of people to play their slots, but opponents say that by putting slots in Detroit you are asking the poor to pay for all of the things that the state says it will be able to do with slots revenue.

That is not to say that high rollers won’t be going to the casinos as well, because they do. They see everyone from grandmother’s to celebrities come in there to play the slots or the tables, but the poor will feel the brunt of the damage that the casinos will bring in. They also say that with all of their talk about the amount of money that the slots and gambling were supposed to bring in, the casinos are actually bringing in significantly less than what was estimated.

Proponents say that the slots casinos brought in almost seven thousand jobs, and that those jobs – with tips – bring in around $54,532 in salaries. They say that people were claiming that the slots were going to bring in all kinds of crime and gambling addiction, and that nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, they say that crime and unemployment were worse before they came to town.
