South Africa Ahead of the US
It may be true that South Africa experienced blatant prejudice and social divide more recently than we have in the Northern Hemisphere, but it seems that there is nothing keeping them from blasting full force into the 21st century, as they are eons ahead of the US in the quest for a sound legal system when it comes to online casinos and slots. While the US is stuck in a conservative denial frame of mind with the Prohibition style UIGEA law, South Africa is looking at all sides of the equation and truly attempting to balance responsibility with individual freedom.
For a good year or two now, the country has been in debates with trying to figure out an effective way to handle this new technology. It is important for countries to take time to figure out all of the complexities of the situation before jumping the gun, assuming they have all the facts, and then rushing to judge or abolish behavior that is not able to be regulated, monitored in the first place. That is exactly the case in the US, where people are unclear as to what the rules are, how to follow them, and what exactly the consequences will be if they break the rules. South Africa, in contrast, has shown that it is possible to conduct the process responsibly, and the fruits of that patience and labor are around the corner.
Still, nothing is perfect, as South Africa is also looking for a way to effectively monitor the activity of off shore and local online slots casinos, and have openly admitted that this new industry is difficult to regulate. In the meantime, South Africans are still able to access off-shore casinos that haven’t taken into account that they have not gone through the proper procedure to operate, and the government has taken notice of who is following the rules and who is.
